CAREER$

CAREER$ will provide instruction that results in mastery and certification, competency or credentials in several interrelated counseling disciplines necessary for success in the work environment. Modules in Life Skills, Employability, and Independent Living will prepare you for a successful future!
Course

Employability: Cognitive Skills

In the CAREER$ Cognitive Skills module, the learner will understand the importance of the meaning and development of his or her own cognitive skills, as well as understanding the impact these skills have on his or her daily life. Skills such as reading, thinking, prioritizing, and problem solving are defined and illustrated, giving the learner a clear picture of the importance of remaining cognitively sharp.

Employability: Communication Skills

In the CAREER$ Communication Skills module, the learner will understand and identify what communication skills are, as well as the importance of these skills in everyday life. The course also teaches the meanings and examples of verbal and non-verbal communication, giving positive examples of both. Finally, the learner will understand how ineffective communication can affect accomplishments, both short- and long-term.

Employability: Hard Skills

In the CAREER$ Hard Skills module, the learner will understand job-specific skills and tasks, as well as the importance of interviewing, resume writing, and self-rating performance. The course also teaches the meaning of job-seeking. Finally, the learner will identify successful strategies for seeking a job, interviewing, and writing a resume.

Employability: Interpersonal Skills

In the CAREER$ Interpersonal Skills (Soft Skills) module, the student will learn work adjustment strategies and the "soft skills" that employers look for. Thestudents will also learn steps to obtaining these "soft skills," how they are taught in many other of these modules, and how to place a high value on them.

Employability: Personal Qualities

In the CAREER$ Personal Qualities module, the learner will understand the importance of work ethic, appearance, attitude, and attendance, all related to the workplace. The course also teaches the importance and impact of positive character traits. Finally, the learner will identify successful strategies for developing positive character traits and a positive attitude.

Independent Living: Goal and Vision Mapping

In the CAREER$ Goal and Vision Mapping module, the learner will understand the core concepts of vision mapping and goal setting. This module will teach the critical concepts of vision, goals, and timelines to ensure success in your personal and professional life. The learner will gain a deeper understanding of the concepts of vision maps, vision boards, and measurable results. As the core of the CAREER$ program, this critical module will set the learner on the path to satisfaction and success.

Life Skills: Anger and Impulse Control

In the Anger & Impulse Control module, the participant will learn how anger and poor coping skills can negatively affect one's life. He or she will learn steps to appropriately resolve conflict rather than using ineffective ways of expressing himself or herself. The participant will understand impulsivity and how to identify their own impulsive tendencies. He or she will also learn skills necessary to stop and think before acting impulsively.

Life Skills: Behavior

In the CAREER$ Behavior module, the student will learn how important behavior is and the consequences (both negative and positive) that it always brings. He/she will be able to understand behavior’s three key component areas: 1) Intellectual/Verbal- What they think or say, 2) Psychomotor - What they actually do, and 3) Attitudinal- How they choose between the two.

Life Skills: Cope and Conquer

In the CAREER$ Cope & Conquer module, the student will learn coping skills and strategies, as well as the ability to apply them to his/her current situation. The student will learn the importance of how his/her goals or vision map will help fuel the desire to cope and conquer one’s goals. He/she will learn how to conduct a self-assessment that will lead to self-actualization and the ability learn from mistakes and understand what can lie ahead, in order to plan for it.

Life Skills: Emotional Tendencies

In the CAREER$ Emotional Tendencies module, the learner will understand what emotional tendencies are and how to identify his or her own emotional tendencies. He or she will learn the effects and skills necessary to control one’s emotional tendencies. The learner will also learn to identify and use control/encouragement mechanisms of both negative emotions (self-pity, shame, denial, for example) and positive emotions (hope, enthusiasm, patience, to name a few).

Life Skills: Prioritization - Time and Stress Management

In the CAREER$ Prioritization: Time & Stress Management module, the learner will learn and understand the skills necessary for being able to prioritize time. He/she will learn how to set goals and prioritize the steps to achieve these goals, which will be affected by time management, and how their personal stress levels will be affected. The learner will also learn how to "leverage" his or her time.

Post-Assessment

This final assessment at the conclusion of the CAREER$ program will test your mastery of the information, skills, and practices presented to you in the Life Skills, Employability, and Independent Living modules. You will be able to compare this score to the score of your pre-assessment and measure just how much you have learned.

This short assessment is designed to create a baseline record of your existing knowledge. These questions will preview the important material that will be covered in the lessons of the CAREER$ program.
